Strategies, Dispositions and Resources of Social Resilience. A Dialogue between Medieval Studies and Sociology

The DFG Research Group 2539 „Resilience. Phases of Societal Upheaval in Dialogue between Medieval Studies and Sociology“ hosts an international conference on “Strategies, Dispositions and Resources of Social Resilience. A Dialogue between Medieval History and Sociology” from March 12 to March 15 in Trier.

 

The conference aims at advancing the development of a social understanding of resilience and its analytical utilization in sociology and medieval contexts by examining strategies, dispositions, and resources of resilience as well as unanticipated consequences and side effects of resilience strategies.

These topics will be discussed from empirical as well as theoretical vantage points, with the aim to interconnect and mutually enrich the different and interdisciplinary approaches to understanding processes of resilience and adaptive change in historical contexts. In doing so, the conference will both highlight and discuss problems associated with the concept of resilience and at the same time develop a new analytical category for understanding socio-historical processes.

 

Venue: Nells Park Hotel, Trier

 

The keynote lecture by Mark Edwards on March 13 will take place at Trier University (V 302). The lecture will be followed by a reception.

Strategies, Dispositions and Resources of Social Resilience. A Dialogue between Medieval Studies and Sociology

 

Die DFG-Forschungsgruppe „Resilienz. Gesellschaftliche Umbruchphasen im Dialog zwischen Mediävistik und Soziologie“ veranstaltet vom 12. bis 15. März 2018 eine internationale Tagung zum Thema „Strategies, Dispositions and Resources of Social Resilience. A Dialogue between Medieval History and Sociology“ in Trier.

 

Ziel der Konferenz ist es, die Tragfähigkeit einer Resilienztheorie für geistes- und kulturwissenschaftliche Fragestellungen zu diskutieren, erforderliche Anpassungen, Revisionen und/oder Erweiterungen zu eruieren und diese gegebenenfalls an empirischen und historischen Fällen zu demonstrieren. Im Zentrum der Konferenz stehen Fragen der konzeptionellen Tragfähigkeit der vorrangig in der jüngeren sozial-ökologischen Forschung entwickelten analytischen Modelle der Resilienztheorie. Es soll diskutiert werden, inwieweit mit dem Resilienzkonzept Fortschritte für eine Theorie sozio-historischer Prozesse zu erzielen sind.

 

Veranstaltungsort der Tagung ist das Nells Park Hotel in Trier.

 

Der Abendvortrag von Mark Edwards (Jönköping University) findet am 13.03.2018 im Senatssaal (V302) an der Universität Trier statt.
